GenoPro Adware Removal

(genopro.com)

You will need two tools:

1. InCtrl5  Developed by PcUser magazine in Australia

-this proggie will tell you where the install utility installs or updates files, records data in the Registry, and possibly updates INI files or essential text files.

Hereis a sample report InCtrl5 produces.

2. Resource Hacker  is a utility to view, modify, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables.

#Note if you use Adware to locate the web3000 spy ware, it will find most traces of it in your system, but when you try to remove it with Ad-ware your computer will crash; the culprit?  > w3knet.dll <

So now you have the tools to hack this program lets go ;)

You can install the GenoPro program using InCtrl5 to see exactly where web300 is installed on your machine, locate the files and registry entries named below and nuke them ;)

Removing Web3000

Start>Run "regedit" (without the quotes) find and delete the offending registry folders:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\web3000.com
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Web3000 Network
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\web3000.com

Delete the registry values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "W3kNetwork"

Search the registry (edit>find) and delete w3k (and variants you see)

Delete these files:
c:\WINDOWS\W3KNet.w3k
c:\WINDOWS\W3KNet2.num
c:\WINDOWS\W3KNetP.w3k
c:\WINDOWS\w3kselfinst.exe
c:\windows\instnetmgr.dll

~and at least 4 other files created after instillation; all beginning with w3k (but not w3knet.dll, we will get to that next)

Reboot in safe mode (restart computer and keep pushing F8) and delete
c:\WINDOWS\w3knet.dll

Reboot normally:

Now go to start>run and enter "msconfig" without the quotes. Click the Startup tab and un-check "W3k Network" (dont worry if w3k network is not listed)

Search the registry again for w3k and delete all references to this key
.

And Now Genealogy Detective

Run regedit and delete the value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\DanMorin.Com\GenoPro "AdvertisingBanner.GenealogyDetective"

Open Genopro.exe using Resource Hacker :

Navigate through the "Dialog" folders until you find the advertisement dialog, mine was 1033 in folder 1545. Delete 1033 and File>save.

Run Genopro.exe (not genopro_original.exe) There you are :) Not too difficult eh?
